A fairly simple site, the American Idol Trading Card project consisted of only 4 pages, but the real magic happened behind the scenes. Like many of the Upper Deck products, this card set contained dynamic codes printed in the packs. These codes, when entered into the website, awarded iTunes Codes, autographed cards, and boxes of card packs. Additionally, they also granted an entry into the grand prize sweepstakes; a trip for two to the American Idol finale!
A unique experience for the users was the method for "entering" the contest; they were presented with the judges table, and received comments from the judges taken directly from the show. These responses informed the user if they had won a prize.
One of the challenges when concepting this site was to constrain ourselves to the rather strict guidelines imposed on us by the licensor. We wanted to use the Judge's Table and the judge's images, but we were not given permission for that. So instead, we used the silouhettes, which while not quite as attractive as the full imagery, are still very recognizable and thus fullfilled the message.
